Saturday 26 January - York Residents Festival
Come & Play: York’s Gamelan Gongs

2.00pm - 3.30pm – suitable for adults
Free to York residents with a valid YorkCard and students (York universities and colleges) with a student ID card.
Gamelan music, which comes from Indonesia and is now popular across the globe, is played on a stunning array of handcrafted bronze gongs and chimes. York is home to one of the UK's oldest gamelan sets, named Gamelan Sekar Petak (white flower) in honour of the city's white rose symbol, and this Resident’s Weekend is your chance to come and try these amazing instruments.
No prior experience is necessary. Please be aware that playing gamelan usually involves removing your shoes and sitting on the floor (please get in touch if you require any alternative access arrangements).
