MASTERS OF THEIR ART

Mozart Adagio & Fugue in C minor, K546
Mozart String Quartet in G major, K387
Haydn String Quartet in F major, Op. 50 No. 5 ‘Dream’

Haydn and Mozart were masters of one of the classical period’s brightest new genres, the string quartet, but it was often in these works that their respect and affinity for the contrapuntal textures of the Baroque are most influential, as in Mozart’s Adagio and Fugue and the dazzling counterpoint of the finale to his K387 String Quartet. The Consone Quartet pair these works with Haydn’s more clearly classical Op. 50 No. 5, known as ‘The Dream’
