A former electrician who decided to change profession after seeing Christy Moore perform on television, this Dublin-born singer and bouzouki player is widely acclaimed as one of most important performers to come out of Ireland in recent years, breathing vigorous new life into the Irish folksong repertoire. Daoirí’s breakthrough album True Born Irishman lead to three BBC Folk Award nominations in 2017, more than any other artist, with wins in the Horizon (for best newcomer) and Best Traditional Track categories. Since then he has toured widely around Britain and beyond, including with the Transatlantic Sessions, and at leading festivals such as Cambridge, Shrewsbury and Costa del Folk.
“Farrell has created quite a buzz in Ireland…it’s easy to hear why. His powerfully unadorned vocals might be from any era, variously recalling Paul Brady and Andy Irvine…it’s a powerful statement” – Mojo ****
“Effortless, instinctive, natural…the real deal” – Mark Radcliffe, BBC Radio 2
Support: York’s leading Irish singer Damian Fynes
