David Owen Norris
Centuries before Freud began to codify its workings, the unconscious mind had been a favourite place for musicians to wander. Drama required a plot and a script; poetry a verse form; painting a subject. Yet in music, free association has always been a fruitful process. David Owen Norris picks apart the idea of fantasy that runs through this year’s festival to see what it tells us about the composers, the age they lived in, and the nature of music itself.
