    East Yorkshire's 'Pilgrim Fathers'

Venue: St John of Beverley RC Church

The opening concert commemorates the Pilgrim Fathers who sailed on the Mayflower in 1620. Eighteen years later another group of Puritans led by the Revd Ezekiel Rogers, rector of Rowley near Beverley, left East Yorkshire for America. They settled in Massachusetts and founded the town of Rowley, thirty miles north-east of Boston. This illustrated talk by David Neave will explore who our local ‘pilgrims’ were, where they came from, why they chose to leave their homes, families and friends, and how they coped with the hardships they faced in their new life.
