Double, Double Toil & Trouble
The intrinsic links between magic and music have been recognised for thousands of years. In this programme, Palisander explore this relationship through music inspired by humanity’s fascination with the mystical; pieces reflecting the Renaissance concept of the Three Magics; songs used to share news of witch trials; music sent to composers by super natural beings, through their dreams; and music composed for the group using magical calculations from the 17th Century. Featured composers include Hildegard von Bingen, J. S. Bach, Dowland and Tartini.
Ambassadors of their instrument, as well as showcasing the full recorder family from 6 inches to 6 feet in size, Palisander will join forces with the next generation of early musicians: collaborating with the NCEM’s instrumental youth group the Minster Minstrels on select pieces in this programme.
Palisander’s unique brand of story-telling, incorporating poetry, movement and dance alongside formal consort playing, ensures an entertaining show for all the family!
