The Trumpet Marine Project

A towering instrument with a single bowed string and a host of sympathetically resonating strings, the ‘trumpet marine’ was used as a trumpet substitute for the use of nuns, but also became an unusual vehicle for virtuosic musical display in the late 17th century. Despite its magnificent sound and striking appearance, it has rarely been seen since. Here is a chance to hear a reimagining of ‘A Rare Concert of four Trumpets Marine’ given in London in 1674, alongside a newly commissioned piece by NCEM Young Composer, Liam Connery.
